BEGINNING OF A TRADITION:
The Rushmore Society, your real life Social Network of Very Busy People, and the Downtown Medford Association, invite all cheerful adults to help us begin a new Southern Oregon tradition: SantaCon.
THE GOAL:
Provide cool adults an opportunity to be silly and joyful, while celebrating the continued revitalization of Downtown Medford and spreading happy, cheerful vibes dressed up as Santa. RSVP ON FACEBOOK RIGHT HERE.
WHAT IS SANTACON:
What is it? A SantaCon is a convention of santas – groups of men & women dressed like Santa.
Why do it? Because it’s fun, and we live in an amazing place that is working hard to come alive, but there are few chances left for adults to be silly without any kind of agenda.
Featuring: designated pub crawl locations, epic group and individual photos, contests and prizes, the 1st Annual Southern Oregon SantaCon will have you smiling all season long!
NEED TO KNOW DETAILS:
DRESS: Dress up! A Santa hat alone is not enough. You don’t have to dress exactly like Santa but the theme is red. That having been said, unusual interpretations of Santa-ness are often appreciated and Christmas trees, elves, reindeer themes etc. are all good.
WHERE & WHEN DO WE BEGIN: Inn at the Commons Lobby at 6:30 pm we launch the 2018 Southern Oregon SantaCon. Meet other Santa’s. Get your photo taken with friends. Learn pub crawl map!
WHERE DO WE GO FROM THERE: at Santa Headquarters, you will receive Santa’s itinerary for the evening. At 6:30pm, we sled our way to the first pub crawl stop! Watch for updates on the Facebook invite for each new location.
COST: does Santa charge for gifts? No, never. Free.
TOP 10 SANTACON PROTOCOL:
- Have fun.
- Don’t get drunk.
- Address your fellow santa as “Santa.”
- Watch out for elves. Elves work hard for Santa all year and especially hard during the holiday season. Santa loves his elves except when they show up to his red-themed event dressed in green. Traditionally, elves are abused at SantaCon.
- Not all these guidelines should be taken seriously
- Santa does not make children cry. Does this really need to be said? Seriously, if you see kids, don’t do anything to freak them out. Give them a nice smile and possibly a gift of some kind…
- Brussels sprouts make a nice gift
- Santa dresses for all occasions. If it’s cold outside, wear multiple costume layers. Dress to maximize merriment whether singing carols in the snow, or swinging from a stripper pole in a hot nightclub.
- Make sure you always tip the good people who are serving you. We want to be able to do this again next year so be polite and cultivate the goodwill of the local community.
- No santa left behind! Don’t think only of yourself – Santa cares about his fellow santas. Pick a few people you know and keep an eye out for them especially when it’s time to move to another venue. If you don’t see them, speak up so other santas know to wait a moment. Every santa should have at least 2-3 other santas they look out for and 2-3 that look out for them in turn.
