Let’s go explore a new Adventure, and live more!
The National Wildlife Refuge was established in 1928 which consists of 15,000 acers of fresh water marsh.
Our Adventure explores up to 9.5 miles of the freshwater marsh (not doing the whole thing) contained within the Upper Klamath Canoe Trail.
The canoe trail has four segments: Recreation Creek, Crystal Creek, Wocus cut and Malone Springs with each segment offering views of the marsh, mountains, and forest. These segments can be access from either Rocky Point boat launch or Malone Springs boat launch.
As we travel through any segment of the 9.5 miles of the Upper Klamath canoe trail, you cannot escape the dramatic mixture of marsh, open lake and forest. The meeting of these environments provides a rich habitat for many plant and animal species.
These habitats create large amount of diversity of species that can be found on the refuge. The Refuge is also home to 2 endangered species of fish and 1 endangered frog species, and nearly 250 species of birds.
These habitats also serve as excellent nesting and brood rearing areas for waterfowl and colonial nesting birds, including American white pelican and several heron species. Bald eagle and osprey nest nearby and can sometimes be seen fishing in refuge waters.
Simply relax and let the wildlife surprise you on the loop.
Nothing beats awesome people in the great outdoors. Bring that camera! Let’s get out and go.
The Rushmore Society is your premiere real life social network of very busy people living life to the fullest with Adventure, Connection and Play. Do More, Live More, Rushmore.
