OUR LAKE OF WOODS ADVENTURE:
This special MEMBERS-ONLY event is why you joined Rushmore! Snowshoeing around a Southern Oregon gem, Lake of the Woods, nestled between Medford and Klamath Falls.
Our 2021 series continues with fun and easy ‘shoe around Lake of the Woods. We’ll cover a moderate 3 mile out-and-back. The Reward; Mt. McLoughlin and LOFT views.
ROUTE OPTIONS:
Our basic route begins at the Lake of the Woods parking lot and explores roughly 4 miles of lakeshore as we weave our way through alpine forests.
Based on snow conditions, we may begin further down the High Lakes Trail or Summit Sno Park PCT sections, beginning near Fish Lake Resort.
Please watch the Facebook Event Page for updates and which route options.
CHALLENGE LEVEL: You must be in good physical condition to complete this snowshoe. Overall, each route is mostly flat and moderate, but may contain a few small uphill climbs depending our the route we choose. And regardless of route, snowshoeing can be for difficult if snow levels are fresh and high. Questions, just ask us!
SNOW CONDITIONS: sometimes, LOTW can have a minimal snow base. If this is the case, we can WINTER HIKE instead of ‘Shoe.
CARPOOLING: Have a snow-worthy vehicle? Want to drive? Drive yourself or hop in a snow-worthy vehicle. This is organized at Luna, and on the the Facebook event page.
** Note: we can only 100% guarantee seats for our official members, but this is rarely a problem. Chains may be required.
** Due to Covid, carpooling will be more limited than past years. Only drive with people in your social “bubble”.
BBQ LUNCH: if Covid guidelines allow, we will grab lunch from the wonderful Lake of Woods Resort diner.
FIRE PIT FUN: if members desire, we can organize bringing fire pit wood to create a fun winter bonfire by the Lake!
