MORE VIEWING INFO BELOW:
A variety of trails are available at Crater Lake National Park. You may have the opportunity to explore some of these below.
The Watchman Fire Lookout is the only fire lookout on the rim of the caldera. Watch the moon rise from the eastern horizon. You can almost feel the Earth in motion.
The Discovery Point Trail is a breathtaking viewpoint from which to watch as the sun goes down over the Cascade Mountain Range. In addition, the Watchman Overlook, a parking area with wooden fences 3.8 miles (6.1 km) northwest of Rim Village offers an unmatched view of Wizard Island, a cinder cone that erupted out of Crater Lake approximately 7,300 years ago.
To find this unmarked pullout, drive 3.8 miles (6.1 km) west of Rim Village and look for a viewpoint lined with wooden fences.

Along the rim is perfect for star gazing. From the edge of the rim, you will experience horizon to horizon of stars. Dress warmly, as temperatures drop at night. You might encounter someone out with a telescope. They might even enjoy sharing knowledge and equipment. Try not to shine any lights in their eyes.
HIKING THE CLEETWOOD COVE TRAIL:
The Cleetwood Cove Trail is the only legal access to the shore of Crater Lake. It is open until 9 pm, and is currently open. The hike is steep and strenuous: in 1.1 miles (1.7 km) it drops 700 feet (213 meters) in elevation. Walking back up is equivalent to climbing 65 flights of stairs!
The trail is recommended only for those in good physical condition. It should not be attempted by anyone with heart, breathing, or walking problems. It is not accessible for people with mobility impairments. Hikers should wear sturdy shoes and carry water. Vault toilets are located at the top and bottom of the trail. The trail is usually open from mid-June, but we will have to see this stormy 2017 season!
Alright, that just about covers it. RSVP NOW!
